From March 9-11, 2007, I have
been teaching at a Christian growth conference at Dembi and Jimma University
(430 Km and 340 Km west of Addis Ababa respectively). The former rural town is
where Muslims in October 2006 attacked Christians burning a number of churches
and forced about 800 Christians to convert into Muslim which happened for three
days and latter all returned to Christianity except 14 who still refused to come
back in fear of possible attack in the future.

Partial view of participants at the conference
The Christian Growth conference
has attracted more than 700 people from the area where 8 (eight) persons came to
receive Christ as their Savior and Lord. On March 12, 2007 I also conducted a one
day training on Evangelism for students at Jimma University. Jimma is the fourth
larges city in Ethiopia where Muslims are predominant. Last week in this
very city an Evangelist has been killed by Muslim fundamentalists while
preaching the Gospel on the street. Please pray for peace in both areas and that
the Lord may give wisdom and courage to Christians as they live and minister
among their Muslim neighbors.

Trees served as seats at the conference
On the
conference, I met a 12 years old boy who has been witnessing about how the Lord
spared him from a crocodile attack while crossing a river on a trip to his
village. Click here for details and pictures:

From March 16-18,2007, the USM team has traveled to Arbaminch
University, 505 Km south of Addis Ababa, where it conducted a Christian
Growth conference for three days in collaboration with the EECMY Limat Woze
congregation in the vicinity of the university.

New souls
came to Christ
The conference has attracted more than 500 students and 750 local
residents at which a total of 15 persons came to know Jesus Christ as their
savior and Lord. Praise the Lord for the success in this conference and pray
that the Lord may send more laborers for the vast harvest in this part of
the country where a lot of people are still in spiritual darkness and abject
poverty. A lot of children in this area do not go to school and have no
potable water.

Thomas Torora,
youth
leader of the congregation
The University Student Ministry team was encouraged to see a
graduate playing active role as youth leader of the congregation on top of
his teaching responsibility at the Arbamich Teachers' Training
College. Thomas Torora, a Chemistry graduate of 2005, says that he has
benefited a lot from student ministry while he was in Addis Ababa
University, Science Faculty for four years.
